8 Great Christmas Gift Ideas for the steel fighter in your life

Merry Christmas and Happy Armored New Year

So, you have one of those crazy people in your life who like to play with swords and whack each other about in tin cans. Sure, we all know they are crazy. However, putting them in straight jackets and sending them off to some asylum may seem excessive. So, instead of giving in to your inner urges and screaming at them, here are a few ideas for shopping for your modern medieval warrior. One other point of clarification. I make no money suggesting these items. I am doing it so I can continue to hit others as much as possible. Is that too much to ask?

1. Forged Foam HMB starter set($140). No matter what league you fight in, having a soft-kit training set is essential to practice fighting in a safe way. Nobody likes to fight alone, so here is a starter set for you and your favorite punching dummy!

2. Protect your noggin! Head protection is a must. I have been looking to change away from my normal dipped foam head protection with face protection to this gear. They use this for FULL CONTACT stick fighting. It also closely duplicates what your warrior wears in the lists!

3. Body Gear is always a great investment. It allows your fighter to up the realism and intensity in practice while keeping safe. This body protection looks very similar to the Mongol style kit and would be an excellent piece of gear to complete their soft kit.

4. A Thor's Hammer Necklace to rival all others from Grimfrost (Wolf King Chain Mjölnir). A warrior is weaker when they do not wear a necklace that exudes the power of the gods. Your sword striking power gets a +8 to all of your hits when this necklace is worn. Don't leave your warrior weak and lame. Get them this necklace fast!

5. Every warrior needs a sword! Don't leave your warrior hanging with some weak steel while fighting in the lists! Craig Nadler has a great entry level falchion that is hard hitting and will bring fear to their enemies as your warrior rains down hell upon them.

6. Worried about your knight losing his head? Might we suggest a great chin strap! Don't be there in the stands worried about your fighter losing their head. Windrose Armoury makes an excellent chin strap to add to any helmet. With just a few minutes time, you can have your knight upgraded and have them safer as they fight in the lists.

7. What home decor is complete without chainmail? Make your fellow fighter right at home with this nice throw pillow home addition. While keeping fighting and safety always on your warrior's mind, this handy throw pillow doubles and protection during any spontaneous pillow fight. Your warrior could emerge the victor every time they get off the couch or bed!

8. Last but not least.... ARMOR. For those who have the budget and the stomach to allow their warrior to join the lists in full metal awesomeness, I suggest you head over to Craig Nadler's shop. He has a complete kit ready to go with some great prices. Craig always backs his stuff and has the fastest delivery of armored awesomeness in the business. Shop Craig and Save!!!

Importance of Conditioning and Recovering for Medieval Combat

So, you are still sticking with this 'medieval fighting' thing? Well, good! But realize that the only easy day was yesterday whippersnapper and it is time to step up your game. You cannot expect to perform better just because you bought armor and you get together a few times a month to hit each other. More importantly, you have to take a careful look at what you suck at and OWN THAT SHIT. We all have things that we are great at. Rarely in the gym do I see guys or gals focusing on weaknesses. It is always focusing on what you are comfortable with. Runners will run, lifters will lift weights, yogi's will yoga, and then you have those weird super-set guys who run around with weighted vests, screaming, and doing high reps of everything in this weird cycle of whatever. One thing that I am sure most people fall short in is in Conditioning and Recovery. Conditioning is basically getting your body physically fit with a regimen of exercises. What does that mean for us? Well, ...

Post Battle of Nations 2017 thoughts

getting a picture from one of the ladies who made the Team USA taberds So I finally did it. I trained hard and succeeded in joining my fellow knights on the battlefield of Barcelona for Team USA's 21 man team. I lost seventeen pounds, hit new strength personal records, and I also had plenty of cardio to fight well. It was an honor to join these great men and women on the field to test our mettle against those who would stand against us. We won and lost on our own merits. We stood side by side and faced the challenges together. We broke bread, we made new friends. This is one experience and memories I will keep as a treasure and look fondly upon it as the first of what I hope to be many more campaigns. Below, I wish to dedicate my thoughts and time to communicate some of the lessons learned to travel abroad. I hope to reflect upon this so that I combine the thoughts of those who have shared many of these lessons before my writing this. Flight Mistakes When I purchased ...

Sleep is a weapon

Picture from New World Cup 2017 “We’re teaching our players: Sleep is a weapon.” — Sam Ramsden, Dir. of Player Health and Performance, Seattle Seahawks   I first really started to pay attention to sleeping after one of my favorite professional strongman competitors talked about how he uses a CPAP machine. He went on to say it helped him recover faster, and get much more quality sleep. As you get stronger, specifically powerlifting or strength training, your neck gets thicker. This could lead to sleep problems by obstructing the airflow you need as you sleep. Others like myself fall into the category of just bad genetics whereby the mouth and the nasal cavities are formed in such a way to be the perfect storm for sleep apnea. It didn't help that I was also overweight   Sleep is an important component of maintaining your health and performance. For Bohurt athletes in particular, proper sleep is a weapon in their arsenal for overall success.  Worceste...
